Diversity and inclusion (D&I) initiatives have become a cornerstone of modern organizational culture. Companies worldwide are investing time, resources, and energy into creating workplaces that are more equitable, diverse, and inclusive. Yet, despite the best intentions, many of these efforts fail to achieve their desired impact. Why is this the case? Over thousands of years, certain behaviors and cognitive shortcuts became hardwired into our psychology. These traits were essential for navigating the challenges of prehistoric life, but in today’s complex, globalized world, they can sometimes lead to unintended consequences.

Diversity and inclusion are not just about checking boxes or meeting quotas—they are about creating environments where everyone can thrive. By embracing our shared humanity and working with, rather than against, our evolutionary instincts, we can build workplaces that are truly inclusive, innovative, and resilient.
